North
Mississippi Allstars Live At
Chesterfields
Café Paris
Lets
see, its my first trip to Paris and all the sites are here to be seen.
Theres the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysees and
Notre Dame, but the number one tourist attraction for me is to catch one
of the hottest new bands on the blues scene The North Mississippi
Allstars. They are in there final days of a two-week stint playing in a
small music club Chesterfields Café, located in the heart of the city.
Opening with Station Blues, a song from their newest release
Shake Hands With Shorty on Tone Cool Records, the bands hits full
stride right from the start. With Luther Dickinson playing some tasty
slide work through-out the evening, Chris Chew on bass and Cody Dickinson
on drums and electric rub board, the band delivers a new type of blues.
Taking the blues from the deep Mississippi delta and updating them with a
touch of southern rock, they create blues that is based a little bit on
the modern jam bands. Their influences seem to run from R.L. Burnside to
Muddy Waters to the Allman Brothers.
The crowd loves it
and the place is packed. The band moves into its next tune ShakeEm
on Down followed by an extensive jam on All Night Long,
Goin Down South, and Po Black Mattie. Finally they close
with an Elmore James classic Shake Your Money Maker. As they say in
France OH LA-LA.
