So Much Truth: Joe Beard

This fall Professor Dan Beaumont of the University of Rochester finished the documentary about blues musician Joe Beard, "So Much Truth." The project began in the fall of 2000, and was edited as a 30 minute preliminary version in March of 2001 called "It Was Always The Blues." That video concentrated on Joe's musical career, and it aired on Rochester's RCTV that spring. By contrast "So Much Truth" seeks to paint a more complete portrait of Joe's double life as a local electrical contractor and a national and internationally known bluesman.  About the video...

"So Much Truth: The Life & Music of Joe Beard," documents two sides of Joe Beard’s remarkable life: his work in Rochester, New York as an electrical contractor and his career as a blues musician and recording artist that has taken him around the world. The footage includes two acoustic performances of songs that Joe learned in the town where he was born and grew up, the hill country town of Ashland, Mississippi. The video documentary was produced and directed by Dan Beaumont over a period of four years, and completed in November 2004. Beaumont is an Associate Professor of Arabic at the University of Rochester.

"German Blues": video of Joe Beard’s live acoustic performance for the Bad Dog Blues show at WITR 89.7 in October 2003 in connection with the publication of articles about Joe Beard and Chris Beard in Living Blues magazine.

"You’re Something Else": Joe Beard’s live performance of this Jimmy Reed song backed by Steve Grills & the Roadmasters for the Bad Dog Blues show's 15th anniversary on October 2004.
